CLI - TEAM PRACTICE DEVELOPMENT UPDATE

Submitted by, Judy Johnson

Many of our members are interested in the development of Collaborative Team Practice (often called simply "Collaborative Divorce") here in Minnesota and have asked to be kept "in the loop" even though they haven't been able to attend Team Practice Development Meetings, and so here goes:

New Team Practice Questionnaire. It has been professionally done, and is designed to help all team members (attorneys, mental health practitioners and financial specialists) get the information they need from our client families up-front. The Questionnaire form is in two parts, with the second part being a ready-made Excel spreadsheet. The forms can be completed electronically or manually.

  • The first part of the Questionnaire was designed to be able to shared amongst team professionals. The last few pages include Optional Questions and Assessment of Success Factor that can be detached and just shared with an individual's own attorney or coach.
  • The 2nd part, the excel spreadsheet was developed to help project monthly expenses. There are two tabs to the spreadsheet, with one allowing for an individual to fill in up to 6 months of historical spending. If this is completed electronically, the average is calculated and automatically pulled into the 2nd tab. The 2nd tab is useful for the financial neutral to assist the parents in projecting future expenses.

I think the Questionnaire form will help give all of us a more professional look to our practices.

Powerful new Parenting Plan form. This form is truly focused on the needs of children and their developmental levels. It is designed for use by our mental health practitioners in Team Practice, and provides a great deal of information to parents about what their children might be experiencing in divorce. This is still in progress and will be released soon.

We are excited to announce Linda Solomon is coming back to town on August 14! Linda is the originator of the One Coach model, working in Texas. As many of you know, this model has been phenomenally successful in Texas and has helped that state put us to shame in Minnesota. Texas already has statutes of collaborative practice and is challenging the legislature to pass additional statutes regarding general civil practice of Collaborative Law. Linda will be working with us hands-on in August to develop the skills which will help make full team practice a reality in Minnesota.
